Vinedresser Kindergarten & Day-care Schools (VKS) follow an integrated curriculum (local learning framework combined with elements from the British Early Year’s Foundation Stage (EYFS). These are child-centered curricula which are carefully structured to maximize learners’ knowledge, enjoyment and overall development.
The foundation level focuses on six key areas of learning.
• Personal, social and emotional development.
• Communication, language and literacy.
• Mathematical development.
• Knowledge, understanding of the world and creative development (Arts and design).
• Physical development
The early years of curriculum emphasizes the development of receptive and productive skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening; as well as personal study skills like concentration, co-operation with other children and a questioning mind. There is also a strong focus on early literacy and numeracy skills that will prepare young learners to progress to either International or local grounds We believe in small class sizes to balance child centered approach with teacher-directed learning. Our teacher to child ratio is one teacher to five children.
Activities and topics are spread out over the four years the child spends at VKS.
Rote counting using songs and rhymes, number recognition, identifying shapes and colors, developing concepts, grouping, sorting, matching, tracing and writing, number sequencing, simple additions and subtractions, learning days of the week and months of the year.
Speaking and Listening, Reading, Writing.
Children are taught using a thematic approach. Each class has a theme for the term and all aspects of the theme are explored to enrich the topic.
Children have sports activities. Aerobics, along with many ball and running games, are part of our Physical Education classes. Children have lots of fun with slides, swings, model cars, bicycles and play items that are available on the school grounds.
